Synopsis
Edward Bond has set this play in the eighteenth century and calls it "a pastoral." It comes complete with an arranged marriage, a restless wife and a family ghost. It draws pointed contrasts between life above stairs and life below, between the town and the country, between the landed gentry and the emergent middle class.
